Joe Gavin: Blog

A Small Part - March 4, 2008

Ever wonder why you get up and do what you do everyday? I do sometimes. But somehow I'm always reminded that I'm just one small part of a much larger plan. Did I say much much larger? God demands our worship but it's not vain. Our greatest joy and satisfaction can only be found there in that state of being, called worship. God's call for our worship is also a call for our heart's own desire. God is most glorified when we are most satisfied in Him. Music is a part of that for me. Blessings, Joe

Cooler weather! - September 26, 2007

Well, having lived in the Florida heat and humidity all my life (I've never seen a snowflake) I always find the thought of Fall encouraging. The grass grows slower (less lawn care) and the days get a little shorter. Of course the cooler mornings and evenings are the best part of all, with a cup of coffee in hand no doubt!
I was just thinking about how much we have to be thankful for. Although life has its ups and downs, some things are constant. Summer, Fall, Winter and spring always come. The sun always rises. Things that appear to be an ending are really the beginning of something new. Love endures...

Friends of Joe Concert - September 20, 2007

What a great time I had opening for guitarist singer/songwriter Sam Pacetti in downtown Lakeland Sat. September15th. We had a great turn out, thanks to all who attended!

Latest Happenings - October 15, 2006

Hello all! Looks like the New Land release "Woodsongs" will be released November 29, 2006. New Land has also aquired Back Roads Music www.backroadsmusic.com
They are planning a supporting tour for Woodsongs in early summer (2007). Looks like I may be eating at Waffle House a lot next year!
Thanks to everyone for believing in and supporting Summit of Leaves!
Check my "Buy" page for more Woodsongs info.

New Land Music - July 14, 2006

New Land Music is a new independent record label that will be launching in the fall of 2006. Windham Hill Records founder Will Ackerman has joined with musician Adam Werner (Founder) and Kelvyn Evans (musician and entrepeneur) to create a revolutionary vehicle for the discovery, development and promotion of artists that will offer a diverse range of musical genres as an alternative to the bland dictates of the music industry at large.
I'm very pleased to say that they have chosen to include one of my songs on their first compilation disc, due to be released this fall. The release is to be titled "Woodsongs" and includes cuts from at least 4 grammy winning fingerstyle guitarists. This is an incredible blessing to be included on this release. You can go to www.newlandmusic.com (what you will find is only a very small fraction of what's to come!) and click on "news" to check out the latest on the development of Woodsong.
All the best,
Joe

Bigger Things Ahead? - April 27, 2006

Hello all! Just thought I'd let all who like this music and are excited about it know that there is a label that has been checking out Summit of Leaves for the past few months and a 2nd that just got their hands on it. Please be in prayer for me that I will be subject to God's will and that He might be glorified in all that happens with this music (whatever that may be).

"Summit of Leaves" release. - December 28, 2005

Joe's debut CD, Summit of Leaves, was completed and released in December, 2005.
With the most recent composition written in mid 2005, and the oldest composition dating back to 1988, this album has been a long time coming. This is an acoustic guitar based, instrumental album.
You can find some information on the individual songs on the
Music page.

Interlachen Concert - December 14, 2005

What a great time I had at Bethel Assembly of God in Interlachen Fl! You all were so friendly and receptive. I really enjoyed our worship time together. I'm sure Pastor Mike is thankful to have a congregation that loves to lift up the name of Christ. I thanked God during my drive back to Lakeland for your generosity and openess to all I had to share with you. God bless you all.
Your partner in declaring God's worth,
Joe
