Joe Gavin: Home

Welcome to my homepage! I'm Joe Gavin, an acoustic fingerstyle guitarist.

Be sure to check out my debut release "Summit of Leaves". This is an all instrumental release with 9 original tracks and one traditional arrangement. I had a lot of fun making this music. I hope you enjoy it!

A quote from the liner notes...

"All of man's creations, as magnificent as they are, seem lacking when compared with nature. Entire libraries and museums of man's finest works cannot move the mind, nor stir the emotions more deeply than that which is said by a single tree. Though silent to us, the trees have their song. Perhaps they have an entire language, unheard by the ears of man. Perhaps they hear our words, and have observed man's folly and strife. They may speak of us often. Perhaps word has spread among the trees of a great assembly, a great convergence of the forest to discuss the state of man, a great....Summit of Leaves"

One of my songs from Summit of Leaves made it to a disc titled "Woodsongs", the first release from New Land Music (Will Ackerman, Kelvyn Evans and Adam Werner) The disc features 17 tracks, each one by a different artist. Five of the artists are Grammy winners! Over the Downs from my disc Summit of Leaves will be featured on Woodsongs. Here's a brief statement from New Land...... New Land Music, record label, will debut with Woodsongs, a mesmerizing collection of contemporary acoustic guitar instrumentals featuring Grammy Award Winning and Grammy Award Nominee artists including Will Ackerman, Alex de Grassi, Preston Reed and David Cullen, as well as the next generation of acoustic instrumental guitar artists. Woodsongs is available on the Backroads Music website and catalog. Check my "Buy" page for more info on Woodsongs!

I'm amazed!

I'm totally amazed when I look at a life, one this world has tried to destroy and I see that God's hand has been at work the entire time. It makes me want to sing! To sing out and have my voice heard, to make melody to the Lord with my voice, yes mine. I'm so shallow....He's so deep. I am full of ugliness, He is a living spring of beauty. Beauty that is always new and with sufficient power to sustain all that we see and all that is not seen. He is righteousness. He is judge. He is merciful even in our pain. He loves us even though we suffer. If pain and suffering mean that I receive from Him good character, persevereance, faith and a heart that longs for the living God.....then may it be mine to bear. Keep up your faith Mike, He is with you in your "Prison Of Pain".

You know, there is a certain satisfaction that comes from doing a thing well. I've come to realize that there is very little I do truly well. What I mean is that there is little I do out of a pure heart. Keeping rules and regulations is one thing, but, if you keep rules and regulations while gritting your teeth what good have you derived form it?

Praise God that He works in the inner man to bring about change.

More on this later.

Peace of Jesus,

Joe
